Event Overview:
Since its completion in 1964, the total capacity of Shimen Reservoir has decreased from the original design of 309 million cubic meters to 201 million cubic meters. To address this, the government has continued dredging and sediment discharge operations, while actively promoting improvements to flood discharge and sediment management facilities.

Upon completion of the Amuping Sediment Bypass Tunnel Project:

• ●Annual sediment reduction of 640,000 cubic meters
• ●Increased flood discharge capacity by 600 cubic meters per second (cms)
• ●Annual reuse of approximately 320,000 cubic meters of sediment
